Dice and dice games goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps developed from the old English game called Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the birth of the game, however Hazard is said to have been invented by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s soldiers wagered on Hazard through a siege on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortress’s name.
Early French colonists brought the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they left Acadia, they brought their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it fair mathematically. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the name to craps, which is acquired from the name of the losing throw of two in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
