Games that use dice and the dice themselves date back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Modern craps formed from the old English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, although Hazard is believed to have been made up by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the 12th century. It is supposed that Sir William’s paladins played Hazard during a blockade on the citadel Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers brought the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 1700s, when banished by the English, the French relocated south and discovered refuge in the south of Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their preferred game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns streamlined the game and made it more mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which was gotten from the name of the non-winning toss of two in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
