Be cunning, play clever, and discover how to play craps the ideal way!
Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but current craps is approximately a century old. Modern craps evolved from the old Anglo game referred to as Hazard. Nobody absolutely knows the origin of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Englishman, Sir William of Tyre, sometime in the twelfth century. It is theorized that Sir William’s paladins bet on Hazard amid a siege on the castle Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the castle’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Acadia. In the 18th century, when displaced by the English, the French headed south and found sanctuary in southern Louisiana where they eventually became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their best-loved game, Hazard, with them. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the name to craps, which is gotten from the name of the bad luck toss of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, known as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game extended to the Mississippi river boats and across the nation. Many think the dice builder John H. Winn as the father of current craps. In the early 1900s, Winn assembled the current craps setup. He put in place the Don’t Pass line so gamblers can wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he created the spaces for Place wagers and added the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
