Dice and dice games goes back to the Crusades, but modern craps is just about one hundred years old. Modern craps evolved from the ancient English game referred to as Hazard. Nobody knows for sure the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is believed to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is supposed that Sir William’s horsemen played Hazard amid a siege on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The name Hazard was gotten from the citadel’s name.
Early French colonists imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the English, the French moved down south and settled in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they took their favored game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns broke down the game and made it mathematically fair. It’s believed that the Cajuns altered the title to craps, which was derived from the name of the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi riverboats and all over the country. A good many acknowledge the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn built the current craps layout. He created the Don’t Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he invented the spaces for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
