Learn to Play Craps – Tricks and Schemes: The History of Craps
Be cunning, play brilliant, and pickup craps the right way!
Games that use dice and the dice themselves goes all the way back to the Middle Eastern Crusades, but current craps is only about a century old. Current craps formed from the 12th Century Anglo game called Hazard. Nobody knows for certain the beginnings of the game, however Hazard is said to have been discovered by the Anglo, Sir William of Tyre, in the twelfth century. It is believed that Sir William’s paladins enjoyed Hazard through a blockade on the fortification Hazarth in 1125 AD. The title Hazard was gotten from the fortification’s name.
Early French settlers imported the game Hazard to Canada. In the 1700s, when driven away by the British, the French relocated south and discovered refuge in southern Louisiana where they after a while became Cajuns. When they fled Acadia, they brought their best-loved game, Hazard, along. The Cajuns simplified the game and made it more mathematically fair. It is said that the Cajuns changed the title to craps, which was acquired from the term for the non-winning throw of snake-eyes in the game of Hazard, referred to as "crabs."
From Louisiana, the game migrated to the Mississippi barges and all over the country. A good many consider the dice maker John H. Winn as the founder of modern craps. In 1907, Winn created the modern craps setup. He appended the Do not Pass line so gamblers could wager on the dice to lose. Afterwords, he established the boxes for Place wagers and put in place the Big 6, Big 8, and Hardways.
